10 Tips to maintain your billiard table

May 31, 2022

Anyone who has been playing billiards for years knows that proper maintenance of the billiard table is essential. Not only does the table look beautiful, but it also lasts much longer. And the most important thing is of course that it benefits your billiards game.
That is why we have listed these 10 useful tips for the maintenance of your billiards.

Level billiards

When you buy a billiard or pool table, there are a number of things that you can take into account for an optimal billiard experience.

  • Have your new billiard table installed by one of our professional billiard fitters. They specialize in assembling and preparing billiards for play. This way you can be sure that your billiards table is perfectly assembled and you can start playing immediately. Take contact contact us for the possibilities
  • Make sure the billiard table is level. You can do this by turning the adjustable feet. You can do this alone, but with 2 people it is just that little bit easier.
In general, the billiard remains level, but you can always check this later and adjust it if necessary.
  • A heater can sometimes be placed under carom billiard tables with a slate playing field. Such a billiard heater is intended to remove the moisture from the slate plate. This gives less resistance to the billiard balls, so that they roll faster over the playing field. The temperature of the heating under the billiards can already be set at 2 to 3 degrees above the room temperature, but is usually set at 30 degrees.

During and after playing

You can also take steps to keep your billiards and billiard accessories, such as the cue and billiard balls, in the best condition while playing billiards

  • It is important to chalk the tip on your cue regularly. This ensures that the cue becomes stiff and does not bounce off the balls. Don't do the chalking over the billiard table, though. This way you prevent the billiard balls from deviating during play due to the chalk that has ended up on the sheet.
  • As soon as you have finished playing a game of billiards, it is advisable to brush the cloth immediately with a special billiard brush and then vacuum with a brush attachment. Use a low setting when vacuuming so that the sheet does not create a vacuum. With this you remove dust and chalk and you start every billiard game with a clean sheet.

How do you clean billiard balls?

  • Try to keep your table as clean as possible. It is not possible to get stains out of the sheet. Never use a moist cleaning agent, such as cleaning vinegar, on the cloth of your billiard table.
  • Over time, imperfections may appear in the slate of your billiards or pool table. No problem, these imperfections can be filled and polished. Have this done by a specialist for the smoothest possible result.
  • The billiard cloth can also be replaced. To prevent color differences, the specialist will immediately re-stretch the sheet and the bumpers. These rubber bumpers themselves (almost) never need to be replaced. They last no less than 15 years and sometimes even longer.

Also take good care of your billiard accessories

To get the best out of your billiard game, it is important that you take sufficient care of the billiard table. But don't forget the maintenance of the billiard accessories. With these tips, your billiard balls and billiard cue will remain in top condition.

  • To always have the best ball contact, it is good to always start with clean billiard or pool balls. You clean the billiard balls with a special ball polish. Shake the billiard ball cleaner well before you use it, spray once on the ball and then polish your billiard balls well with an (Aramith) micro-fiber cloth. Wipe the billiard ball cleaner away with a dry cloth.
  • It is known that you have to chalk the tip of your cue, but it is also wise to replace the tip on time. The more you use the cue, the faster the leather of the tip wears out. To replace your tip, the white leg must first be sharpened completely flat. Then you sand the tip flat and with a drop of pomeran glue you attach it to your cue. As soon as the glue is dry, your cue is like new and ready for your next game of billiards!
